On 31 July, Deutsche Bank confirmed that a "limited number" of staff were involved in the Libor rate-rigging scandal. However, it said an internal inquiry had cleared senior management of taking part. Deutsche Bank was a key player in global rate-rigging scandals. Authorities said bank employees played central roles in manipulating Libor and a similar European benchmark known as Euribor. Libor is an average calculated from overnight loans between banks in five major currencies around the world. It has long been used to set interest rates, but it has come under scrutiny in recent years since lenders were found to be manipulating the market through rate-rigging schemes.
